Chop an onion, and saute it in olive oil/butter/your preferred substance, until translucent. 2. Measure a cup of (uncooked) rice, and add it to the onion, get all the rice coated in oil and also beginning to be translucent. 3. Add 2 cups of hot chicken stock (in a pinch, 2 cups of boiling water and a bouillon cube/envelope) (and any other herbs or spices, a bit of salt, etc) 4. Cover and turn heat down to simmer until the rice is done. Don't stir any more at this stage. If you need to check whether all the liquid is absorbed, use a spatula to gently peek in down the side of the pan. I also like to add chopped celery and carrot in step 1.
